Dr. Karen Dahlman is a neuropsychologist known for her clinical work based on brain function research. She works with a wide age range of patients, specializing in comprehensive diagnostic evaluations. Dr. Dahlman also maintains a psychotherapy practice utilizing insight-oriented techniques based on psychodynamic theory. Dr. Dahlman is a sought-after consultant in forensic matters, and has served as an expert witness in legal proceedings related to capacity, disability, medical malpractice, personal injury and other areas.  Dr. Dahlman works with adoption agencies throughout the metropolitan area, providing pre-adoption psychological testing for prospective parents as well as psychotherapy services to families at all stages of the adoption process. 

Dr. Dahlman is the Director of Neuropsychology-NYC, a private neuropsychological evaluation and psychotherapy practice, and has been a faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai since 1995. At Mt. Sinai, she served as Director of the Neuropsychological Testing and Evaluation Center and Director of Adult Psychology and Neuropsychology Training from 1995-2012. Dr. Dahlman has held academic appointments at The New School for Social Research and St. John’s University. In addition, she has served on academic committees at Queens College and Fairleigh Dickinson University. Dr. Dahlman is an invited peer reviewer for prestigious medical journals including The Journal of Psychiatric Research. Dr. Dahlman has been consulting neuropsychologist for the Mount Vernon Board of Education since 2007.

Dr. Dahlman has authored or co-authored many articles that have appeared in leading journals, including Dementia and Geriatric Cognitive Disorders, International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry, Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation, International Journal of Clinical Practice, Dialogues in Clinical Neuroscience, Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, American Journal of Psychiatry, and The International Journal of Neuropsychopharmacology. She has contributed chapters to several books having to do with cognitive changes in aging. Dr. Dahlman has lectured at conferences in this country and abroad, including, most recently, the Mount Sinai – Oxford Consortium on Bioethics in London (April 2010).

Dr. Dahlman’s educational background includes post-doctoral training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from The New School for Social Research in New York, an M.A. in Social Psychology from The University of California at Berkeley, and a B.A., Magna Cum Laude with Honors in Psychology from Brandeis University.

Dr. Dahlman is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), Division 20 (Adult Development and Aging) and Division 40 (Neuropsychology), National Academy of Neuropsychology (NAN), International Neuropsychological Society (INS), and New York State Psychological Association (NYSPA), Neuropsychology Division.
